Marine Conservation in Indonesia with Coralia Liveaboards
Our Commitment to Marine Conservation in Indonesia: Protecting Reefs, Marine Wildlife, and Coastal Communities
At Coralia Liveaboards, sustainability is the foundation of every journey. We explore some of the most biodiverse seas on Earth, and we recognize our responsibility to help protect them. Through long-standing partnerships with Raja Ampat SEA Centre, hands-on restoration work, community initiatives, and responsible onboard operations, we work to ensure that Indonesia’s reefs, wildlife, and coastal communities can thrive for generations to come.
SEA Centre – Dive Guide School Sponsorship
Coralia proudly supports the Dive Guide School operated by Raja Ampat SEA Centre, an initiative developed within the same organisation as Coralia Liveaboards and Papua Explorers.
This shared foundation ensures that our conservation efforts, community engagement, and sustainable tourism practices all move toward the same purpose.
The Dive Guide School provides young Papuans with professional diving, hospitality, and marine-conservation training. Through our sponsorship, a local student receives full certifications, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities for long-term careers in responsible tourism.
By investing in future Papuan dive professionals, we help ensure that the people who call these reefs home are also the ones leading their protection and inspiring others to care for them.
Sustainability On Board: Responsible Liveaboard Practices in Indonesia
At Coralia, every detail of your journey, from cabin to dive deck, reflects our commitment to protecting the ocean and supporting local communities.
As an eco friendly liveaboard in Indonesia, we reduce our environmental footprint by using reef friendly laundry products and toiletries, employing biodegradable garbage bags,
eliminating single use plastics throughout our operations, and providing each guest with a reusable water bottle for the duration of their cruise.
We also prioritise responsible sourcing and local supply. Whenever possible, food, amenities, and curated gift shop items are purchased from local artisans and small businesses in Indonesia. By doing so, we help nurture coastal economies while reducing transport impact and supporting long term community livelihoods.
ReShark: Supporting Leopard Shark Recovery in Raja Ampat, Indonesia
Coralia proudly supports ReShark, a global conservation initiative focused on restoring endangered leopard shark populations through collaborative breeding, juvenile reintroduction, habitat preparation, and long term monitoring. This science driven effort brings together aquariums, research institutions, and conservation partners to help rebuild a species that once thrived in Raja Ampat.
When we are in the area and conditions allow, guests may have the opportunity to visit the facility and meet the shark care team. These visits offer a behind the scenes look at raising and preparing juvenile leopard sharks for release, including feeding, health checks, behaviour monitoring, and habitat readiness. Speaking with the shark nursery staff gives guests a deeper understanding of the recovery process and the long term vision behind ReShark’s work in Raja Ampat.
