Coral Explorers Liveaboard 2026

We’re excited to announce the return of our Coral Explorers cruise from 2–9 September 2026 — a special trip designed for divers who want more than just incredible diving.

This unique expedition combines world-class diving with a deeper understanding of the reefs we explore.

Meet the Coral Explorers Team

Coral Explorers is a different kind of dive experience. It’s a week where you explore some of the world’s richest reefs — and actually understand what you’re seeing.

The programme is led by by world-famous coral reef science communicator Russell Kelley, alongside marine park manager Rachel Pears. Together, they bring the reef to life in a relaxed, accessible way. No formal lectures — just clear, engaging insights shared between dives in an informal “ask anything” style.

It’s best described as edutainment — interesting information and interpretation, without ever taking away from the diving.

See the Reef Differently

This itinerary focuses on two of the most diverse regions — Dampier Strait and Batanta Island. Dampier Strait is known for its fish life, strong currents, and iconic reef scenes — schools of fusiliers, hunting trevallies, and vibrant coral gardens. Batanta offers a completely different experience, with quieter sites, unique topography, and the chance to explore mangroves and critter-rich environments.

Why Join Coral Explorers?

This is not a classroom. It’s a live, immersive experience. Between dives, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of what you’ve just seen — from coral structures to fish behaviour and reef dynamics. Our Coral Explorers programme brings expert knowledge onboard through informal talks and discussions, helping you connect the dots between each dive. The result? Every dive becomes more meaningful.

A Different Kind of Dive Trip

Coral Explorers is ideal for divers who are curious and want to engage more with the underwater world — not just observe it. It’s about slowing down, asking questions, and seeing the reef with a new perspective.

Previous guests have loved how much this adds to their experience. By the end of the trip, everyone is noticing more, paying closer attention to the corals, and coming back from each dive chatting about the corals that they’ve seen.
